4 Guilt-Free Reasons to Treat Yourself This Bubble Bath Day

07. Jan 2016

Bathroom-Setup-(2)

We recently read that January 8th is known by some as Bubble Bath Day. Sounds to us like a pretty good excuse for some pampering!

Giving yourself a chance to refresh and recharge is an important part of staying mentally and physically healthy. But, for most people the idea of taking some “me” time can bring with it a sense of guilt for not paying enough attention to your family, work, chores or other commitments.

If celebrating Bubble Bath Day doesn’t feel like proper justification for you to simply sit back and relax, we have four pretty convincing reasons why you should treat yourself – without feeling selfish.

A Happier You is a More Pleasant You

There is a reason why flight attendants tell you to put on your own oxygen mask before helping others. If you are incapacitated (whether by lack of air, or by a bad mood), you are in no position to uplift others. Working on your own happiness is a key part of bringing joy to those around you.

Cuddles Make Everyone Happy

Everybody wins when you take time to cuddle up. Frequent hugs from a loved one (including pets!) have been shown to release oxytocin and dopamine, known as the “love” and “pleasure” hormones. So grab a cozy blanket and snuggle in for some together time – a treat for the both of you!

You Work Hard Enough Already

This may sound like taking the easy way out, but it’s true. Every single day you get up and do at least one thing that advances your life (even if it’s just eating a meal!). It’s easy to get stuck in a rut when so much of life is focused on accomplishing something in order to achieve another goal. Every once in a while it’s important to live life for the sake of living, so cut yourself some slack to just be today.

You Will Actually Get More Done

If we haven’t already convinced you of the benefits of focusing on yourself for a day, maybe this will help: taking time off can actually increase your productivity. Think about it – how well do you really work when you’re stressed and unhappy? By taking some time away from the stressors in your life you will allow yourself the opportunity to return with fresh eyes and confidence in your abilities.
