‘Tis the Season! Enjoy Every Moment with These Holiday Tips

The holiday season is supposed to be one of the happiest times of the year, and yet many people end up harried and stressed out before the festivities have even begun. Luckily, there are a few easy steps you can to take to make sure that you truly enjoy every moment this year – all it takes is breaking out of a few bad habits!

Get Your Shopping Done Early

The easiest way to get stressed out during the holiday season is to wait until the last minute to do your shopping. Whether you’re picking up new decorations or checking off someone’s wish list, the longer you delay hitting the stores the busier they will be (not to mention you run the risk of missing out on a limited-edition item!).

Repurpose Older Decorations

It seems that beginning on November 1st we are bombarded with holiday advertising, especially “act now or miss out” deals on the latest trends in seasonal decor. There is no need to go into the red just to add some festive colours to your home and, trust us, nobody is going to notice if you had those same holiday placemats last year. Of course, you can always spruce up your decorations with some simple “upcycling.”

Have you hung the same wreath on your door every year but its condition is still too good to throw it away? Try moving it instead as a dining room or coffee table centrepiece.

Has the glue begun to break down on some older decorations but the individual pieces are still in good shape? Try salvaging the pine cones and other pieces to use as ornaments.

Keep it Simple

Being the host during the holidays, never an easy task, is made even harder when there are many competing diets and preferences to account for. Be sure to give yourself a moment to step back and actually have some fun, too. Whether that means keeping your holiday meal simple yet delicious or the gathering smaller than previous years, the most important part of this time of year is enjoying it with friends and family – not competing to throw the most over-the-top event.
