Have a Heartwarming, But not Bank-Breaking, Valentine’s Day

ValentinesDay - 2015

Of all the holidays lamented for their increasing commercialisation, Valentine’s Day has to be one of the most irksome. For a variety of unfortunate reasons, what was meant to be a simple day to celebrate love has become an expensive competition that all too often puts a price on your devotion.

This Valentine’s Day, try keeping it simple and really make February 14th about that special someone in your life. After all, who needs the hardest-to-get reservations and latest designer jewels when you can cuddle up with the one you love?

Here are some tips for making this year’s Valentine’s Day one to remember, without costing you a fortune.

Cook Up Some Romance

Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, so turn up the heat in the kitchen by creating a delicious meal together. If the weather permits, you can always pack it up and find an idyllic picnicking spot to enjoy it!

Hide Away

Sometimes the best way to really enjoy someone’s company is to remove yourselves from the distractions of the outside world and spend some genuine one-on-one time. Order some takeout, put on a movie and pop some champagne for a personal, and still memorable, day together.

Bring the Spa to You

“Valentine’s Day Package” is usually just a nicer way of saying “Pay more, but get one chocolate-dipped strawberry.” Spas and hotels are likely to be way busier on such a cliché day to visit, so avoid the cost and unwanted company by bringing the relaxation home. Lotion, bath bubbles, candles and a couple bathrobes are all you need to visit a romantic retreat without leaving your front door.

Dance the Night Away

Move the furniture out of the way and add a little music (and maybe a little wine) and you’ve got the perfect dance floor right at home. Grab your loved one and dance into the morning, without the awkward fear of onlookers you may experience if you were doing this in public.

Invite Your Friends

No, we’re not suggesting bringing your friends to an amorous evening for two, but why does Valentine’s Day have to be focused solely on romantic love? Just because you’re not in a relationship with a “significant other” doesn’t mean there are no significant others in your life! Take a cue from Parks and Recreation’s Leslie Knope and celebrate “Gal-entine’s Day” with your girlfriends, or invite a circle of friends together for a night of games and laughter.
